Mommy the translator
I found this little thing I wrote back maybe a year ago when my daughter wasn't talking yet, and I thought I'd share it:
Mommies have ridiculous abilities to translate their child's communications for others, which probably isn't very condusive to the kid actually learning that they need to talk clearly. I can recognize the nature of my daughter's whines. This morning she was in the hall where I couldn’t see her, but I could tell when a) she was whining about being unable to find her lovey, a little puppy blankie; b) she switched whining angrily about finding the puppy but having to extract it from the diaper bag; and c) her little grunty happy whine when she obtained it.
